How to choose the right Epoxy Resin type for your needs?
Share
Each type of epoxy resin has its unique properties, advantages, and applications. Choosing the right type depends on your specific project requirements.
In this blog, we'll explore the unique features and applications of Epoxy Art Resin, UV Art Resin, and deep-pour resin.
We'll also guide you on the key factors to consider when deciding which resin is best suited for your creative projects.
TYPES OF RESIN- ART RESIN, UV RESIN & DEEP POUR RESIN
What is UV Resin?
The unique feature of UV Resin is that it requires no mixing and can cure when placed under a UV lamp in about 5-10 minutes. Apart from that, its functions are the same as art resin. It can be used for both casting and coating, creating earrings, pendants, small coasters, bookmarks, and laminating over paintings and furniture.

What is Epoxy Art Resin?
Art Resin is a versatile type of resin that can be used for both casting and coating. It is prescribed for creating resin earrings, pendants, small coasters, bookmarks, etc., and also for coating a thin glossy lamination over paintings and other artworks. Typically, art resin can be poured to a maximum thickness of 10 mm, and it takes 24 hours for it to cure completely. Pouring it thicker than this can lead to problems like overheating, cracking, or uneven curing.
What is Deep Pour Epoxy Resin?
Deep Pour Resin is a specialized type of epoxy resin, also called the casting resin, specifically good for thick casting projects, which cannot be achieved using art resin. It can be poured in layers up to 2 inches (or more) in a single pour without overheating or cracking, making it ideal for applications where depth and durability are essential. Unlike standard art resin, deep pour resin is not recommended for coating needs.

Here’s a checklist that can help you decide which resin type best suits your project-
Project type and Thickness:
Whether it's for casting or coating and the desired thickness of the artwork are all factors that dictate which resin suits best.
Art Resin (up to 10 mm): Perfect for small to medium-sized projects like jewelry (earrings, pendants), small coasters, bookmarks, and decorative art pieces.
Deep Pour Resin (thicker projects): Ideal for large, thick projects like river tables, decorative sculptures, and statement art pieces that require depth and durability.
Curing Time and Method:
UV Resin (quick-curing under UV lamp): Suitable for small, intricate projects like jewelry, miniatures, and decorative accents that require fast curing.
Art Resin and Deep Pour Resin (require mixing and varying curing times): Perfect for projects that need more time to work with, like large castings, coatings, and decorative art pieces.
Project Complexity:
Your skill level and project complexity are also important factors.
Beginner-friendly: UV Resin for small, quick projects like jewelry and decorative accents. Art Resin for small to medium-sized projects like coasters and bookmarks.
Advanced: Deep Pour Resin for large, complex projects like river tables and decorative sculptures that require more expertise and planning.
