How to Use an Epoxy Resin Art Kit: A Step-by-Step Beginner’s Guide

If you’re a budding resin artist, mastering the basics is crucial before you dive into those bigger, more ambitious resin adventures. That’s precisely why Oytra offers a wide range of art resin kits designed to support your aspirations as a beginner.

In this blog, we'll detail every element inside an OYTRA RESIN ART KIT, walking you through how to use each of these to embark on a self-sufficient resin art project as a beginner.

Keep your guide card handy and follow these simple steps to bring your resin art to life!

Step 1: Start with the Magical Potion – Resin and Hardener Mixing

This is the most crucial step for successful resin art! Your OYTRA Epoxy Art Resin has a 2:1 formulation, meaning for every 2 parts of resin (Part A), you add 1 part of hardener (Part B).

Precise Measuring: Use a measuring cup and strive for maximum accuracy. For example, mix 60 g of resin with 30 g of hardener. Similarly, for 100 g of resin, use 50 g of hardener.

Thorough Mixing: Once measured into the paper cups, use a wooden stick to mix gently yet consistently for 3-4 minutes. Make sure to scrape the sides and bottom of the cup to ensure everything is fully combined.

P.S. – Looking for a quick alternative? If you want to skip the hassle of precise mixing ratios and long curing times, consider UV RESIN ART. This method uses a UV lamp instead of a hardener. Simply, pour the UV resin into your chosen mould and place it under the lamp. In just 2-3 minutes, you'll have your finished artwork!

Step 2: Add Sparkle and Pour into the Mould

Into your well-mixed resin-hardener solution, add the pigment or the glitter flakes and mix thoroughly for 2-3 minutes.

Carefully fill your silicone mould with this resin mixture.

You can also opt for a dual design! For example, pour a quarter of your coaster mould with pink-tinted resin and the rest with purple. Alternatively, add glitter in the centre and surround it with colored pouring for a unique effect!

For pendants and earrings, dried flowers can be placed into the mould before pouring the mixed resin. You can also embed them into a thin initial layer of resin, let it partially cure, and then pour the final coating seal.

Step 3: Wait for the Beauty to Come to Life!

Lightly cover the mould so that dust and other unwanted particles do not settle on it.

Leave it aside for between 24-36 hours at room temperature. Avoid disturbing it during this crucial curing period.

Step 4: Demould to Reveal Your Finished Resin Artwork!

Once fully cured and no longer sticky, gently remove your beautiful artwork from the silicone mould. And just like that, your custom resin piece is ready to shine.

These kits are perfect for exploring various small, beginner-friendly projects. You can craft whatever fascinates you – from earrings and pendants to coasters and keychains. With OYTRA ART RESIN KITS, you’ll have plenty of room to get your hands dirty and truly embrace the inevitable messy starts and mistakes that are bound to happen. Every kit comes with a handy guide card featuring easy-to-follow steps explained using images, making your first project a breeze!
